Shemesh points out that the participants in the study were primarily from white, upper-class families, and that these were only participants who attended one clinic. The data findings from the study may not represent all children with food allergies. However, a 2010 study by Dr. Jay Lieberman, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Memphis’s University of Tennessee Health Science Center, had similar results – 35 percent of the children in his study reported being bullied due to their food allergy.

Up to eight percent of American kids have been diagnosed with a food allergy. Because of this, many schools and classrooms have banned such items as tree nuts, eggs, or dairy from shared school snacks to ensure the safety of their students. Nevertheless, experts emphasize the importance of talking to your kids about being bullied, especially since something as small as a food allergy can be exploited.

Warning: Many childhood vaccines contain aborted human fetal protein, DNA

(NaturalNews) The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), a non-profit vaccine safety group, recently conducted an independent review of the contents of childhood vaccines and found that many of them are tainted with ingredients that would shock most parents. According to the manufacturer-produced package inserts included with each vaccine batch, many vaccines are made with disturbing ingredients like aborted human fetal proteins, altered DNA material, and even genetically-modified (GM) human albumin.

This shocking information was compiled as part of an NVIC safety review on the childhood vaccination schedule, which has been called into question in recent years due to a steady increase in cases of autism and other forms of neurological and brain damage among vaccinated children. As it turns out, there are at least eight, and as many as 23, vaccines routinely administered to children that contain one or more of these questionable ingredients — and if the general public truly knew about this, there would likely be a massive vaccination fallout resulting in the complete collapse of the vaccine industry.

Back in 1966, researchers extracted lung tissue from a 14-week aborted baby and developed a cell line from it known as MRC-5 that is still used in many vaccines today. MRC-5 has admittedly been used to developed the Varivax vaccine for chicken pox, the ProQuad vaccines for both chicken pox and MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), and several other vaccines for Hepatitis A, DTaP, Hib, polio, and rabies. Similarly, a cell line known as RA 27/3, which was derived from another aborted human baby in 1964, is still being used today to produce both ProQuad and MMR II.

The controversial MMR II vaccine also reportedly contains a genetically-engineered human protein known as Recombumin, or recombinant human albumin, that most parents are unaware is being injected into their babies. MMR II is the only known vaccine that contains GM human protein, according to NVIC, but its unique presence in this contentious combination vaccine could help explain the unusual uptick in vaccine-induced neurological damage associated with it in recent years.

According to NVIC, there are three main sources of human protein in vaccines: fetal cell lines, human albumin derived from human blood, and human albumin genetically engineered from yeast. Concerning human albumin derived from human blood, NVIC says “package inserts do not contain any information about where the human blood is sourced from,” but the other two sources are clearly questionable, at best.

So what we know is that aborted fetal cell lines, GM human albumin, and human albumin and DNA derived from other unknown sources are all being used to develop many of the vaccines being injected into society’s most fragile and sensitive members today. If this is not a serious cause for concern, then it is hard to know what is, especially as allergies, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, autism, and many other chronic health conditions continue to escalate inexplicably.

Doctors may soon face requests to provide medical clearance for commercial space travelers and these decisions could impact the growth of the private space industry, according to a new analysis.

This article, published in the Christmas 2012 issue of the British Medical Journal, reviewed industry reports and medical studies to help guide physicians who may have to answer questions and fill out fitness to fly certificates for the growing ranks of aspiring space travelers.

“Commercial investment is bringing space tourism closer to reality,” said study lead author Dr. S. Marlene Grenon, a cardiovascular surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. “Suborbital flight opportunities are currently being planned by companies such as Virgin Galactic, Armadillo Aerospace, and XCOR.”

A July 2012 Federal Aviation Administration report estimates the market demand for reusable suborbital vehicles could grow to a total of 13,134 seats over a decade and bring in over $1.6 billion.

“With more opportunities for space tourism, an increasing number of less healthy individuals can be expected to fly,” Grenon said, adding that the exact nature of the effects of spaceflight on medical conditions are yet to be determined.

“Dr. Grenon and colleagues have emphasized the difficulties in commenting upon the fitness — or lack thereof — of potential candidates for spaceflight,” said Dr. Andrew W. Kirkpatrick, a military trauma surgeon and professor of critical care medicine at the University of Calgary and Foothills Medical Center in Alberta.

Passengers should be informed of the lack of advanced medical and surgical care capabilities in current commercial spaceflight platforms, said Kirkpatrick, who was not involved with this study.

Just how far can the medical envelope be pushed- Consider that Stephen W. Hawking — the ventilator-dependent, wheelchair-bound British physicist with longstanding motor neuron disease — is slated to fly onboard a Virgin Galactic suborbital flight.

Space medicine experts say that suborbital flights are less risky than orbital missions because suborbital passengers experience about one to five minutes of microgravity.

“Most people with well controlled medical conditions are capable of withstanding the acceleration forces involved with the launch and landing of commercial spaceflight vehicles,” Grenon said.

The FAA has not made any specific statements on medical requirements for commercial space passengers, the BMJ authors noted. Instead, the FAA has opted to leave the medical screening process up to the commercial space vehicle operators. ”Experience in aviation medicine has shown that over-regulation could inhibit development of the sector,” Grenon said, adding that a delicate balance — between prioritizing passenger safety and avoiding overly strict medical criteria that could decrease the market — is needed to make the commercial spaceflight industry viable.

“If a potential space traveler asks his or her physician for a medical letter of clearance for space travel, the physician will share responsibility for determination of suitability with the commercial space operator,” she said.

While the International Space Station is currently the only orbiting space tourist destination, other extended stay commercial spaceflight opportunities could exist in the future, the authors wrote.

“It may be possible to fly to an orbiting Bigelow Aerospace hotel or laboratory in the future,” Grenon said.  “Mining companies may send employees to the Moon or near-Earth asteroids to mine planetary resources.”

Once a passenger has disembarked from their space vehicle, there are much greater uncertainties that complicate medical decision making, Kirkpatrick said.

“Adverse physiological changes that increase susceptibility to critical injury or illness may be established within hours of leaving Earth’s gravity,” he said.  “Chronic medical conditions may be exacerbated and unexpected acute emergencies may be more serious than on Earth.”

As extended stay commercial spaceflight opportunities develop, doctors will likely adjust the medical standards governing who can live and work in space.  Disabled individuals could adapt and perform as well as their able-bodied counterparts in space, said one former physician-astronaut.

“People with disabilities will be able to fly in space just fine,” said Dr. Dan T. Barry, a retired NASA astronaut and physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, who was not involved with this study.  “Many mobility impairments will be gone in the space environment.”

70 percent of double mastectomies are pointless

(NaturalNews) 70 percent of breast cancer patients who undergo a double mastectomy do not actually need the procedure, according to a study to be presented at the Quality Care Symposium of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Michigan, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the University of Southern California and Wayne State University, and funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute.

Worldwide, breast cancer accounts for 23 percent of all women’s cancers and 14 percent of all women’s cancer deaths. According to the American Cancer Society, 229,060 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States this year, and the disease will cause 39,920 deaths.

In recent years, many women have sought to reduce their risk of breast cancer recurrence by undergoing the removal of both breasts even when one of the breasts is healthy, a procedure known as contralateral prophylactic mastectomy. Many health advocates have raised concerns that this aggressive treatment option is being overused.

The researchers interviewed 1,446 women who had been successfully treated for breast cancer without experiencing recurrence. They examined the types of treatment received, as well as at the patients’ clinical indications for double mastectomy. They found that among women who underwent a mastectomy, almost 20 percent had both breasts removed. Seven percent of all women in the study had a double mastectomy.

90 percent of women who had undergone a double mastectomy said that they had been very worried about the possibility of recurrence. Yet, according to the researchers’ assessment of the actual risk of recurrence, a full 70 percent of women who underwent contralateral prophylactic mastectomy had done so without good cause. That’s because in the vast majority of cases, a diagnosis of cancer in one breast is not correlated with an increased risk of cancer in the other breast.

“Women appear to be using worry over cancer recurrence to choose contralateral prophylactic mastectomy,” researcher Sarah Hawley said. “This does not make sense, because having a non-affected breast removed will not reduce the risk of recurrence in the affected breast.”

“Not appropriate”

The only women in whom cancer in a single breast is associated with a risk of cancer in the other breast are those with either a history of breast or ovarian cancer in two or more immediate family members, or with a specific mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes.

“For women who do not have a strong family history or a genetic finding, we would argue it’s probably not appropriate to get the unaffected breast removed,” Hawley said.

In addition to the extra cost and the impact on the patient’s life of removing to breasts rather than one, a double mastectomy is associated with significantly more complications and a more difficult recovery than a single mastectomy.

The researchers are now working on a tool to help women make decisions about their breast cancer treatment options.

“A decision tool like ours will solicit common misconceptions about breast cancer treatment and give women feedback to help them fully understand the options and risks involved,” Hawley said.

Anti-gun agenda leads local Big apple newspaper into violating Fourth Amendment rights of gun owners

Understandably the paper, The Journal News, which obtained permit-holder information through a Freedom of Information Act request, immediately began figuratively drawing fire from readers and other citizens concerned about the blatant violation of a permit holder’s Fourth Amendment right to privacy (at press time it is unclear if state law allows publication of the names of permit holders, but it is unimaginable the law would allow publication of the addresses of those holders). So much for the right to be “secure” in your “papers and effects.”

Criminalizing the law-abiding while endangering the innocent

The map and accompanying short story were published under the headline: “The Gun-Owner Next Door: What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood.” In trying to justify this horrendously stupid decision, the paper’s editors explained that their decision to publish the information stemmed from the recent massacre of 20 Kindergarten children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in nearby Newtown, Conn., in mid-December, and – supposedly – the concern expressed by some area residents about which of their neighbors might have guns (as if it is any of their business).

Readers let their wrath be known (hopefully they and a number of the paper’s advertisers will next voice their opinion with their wallets and punish the paper financially). Many pointed out the obvious – that the paper’s editors, regardless of FOIA laws, most likely violated the constitutional protections of these gun-owning permit holders who a) abided by the law and legally obtained their permits; b) never gave anyone permission to publish their addresses in a local newspaper; and c) never thought that they would be treated like criminals for a psychopathic act they had nothing to do with and would never condone in a million years.

They also pointed out that revealing their addresses, as well as the types of firearms they registered when applying for and receiving their permits, made them a target for gun thieves and practically every other resident who does not have a handgun permit a potential target for burglars and other criminals.

“Do you fools realize that you also made a map for criminals to use to find homes to rob that have no guns in them to protect themselves-” one reader wrote on Facebook.

“You have just destroyed the privacy of these law abiding citizens and by releasing this list, you have equated them to that of sex offenders and murderers,” another wrote. “These are law abiding gun owners, they are no danger to anyone except for criminals. And with this information you have made them targets for both criminals and anti-gun lobbyist who i am sure are going to treat them like monsters.”

Gee – what else would “readers” like to know-

The idiots at the paper defended the indefensible.

“The massacre in Newtown remains top-of-mind for many of our readers,” said a statement. “In the past week, conversation on our opinion pages and on our website, LoHud.com, has been keenly focused on gun control.

“Our readers are understandably interested to know about guns in their neighborhoods. We obtained the names and addresses of Westchester and Rockland residents who are licensed to own handguns through routine Freedom of Information law public-records requests.”

First of all, there is no way of knowing just how many readers really wanted to know about guns in local neighborhoods; this sounds more like the editors of the paper not only wanted to know, but wanted to “out” these law-abiding gun owners as somehow culpable to the Newtown tragedy.

Secondly, just because some readers may say they want to know certain things about their neighbors doesn’t give them – or the press – the right to know. Private property is just that – private – and unless someone is using something they own to hurt another or deprive them of their life, liberty or property, there is no public right to know, and no paper’s obligation to reveal such information.

What’s next – revealing how much cash people keep in their homes- How many have a back-up generators and long-term storable rations, because some readers have been asking– Who has ammunition in their home- Extra clothing and batteries-

There should be some ACLU lawyers lining up to take this case. Let’s hope at least some of the needlessly exposed want to pursue a legal recourse.

At a presidential debate, Obama was asked about achieving gun control. He said, “Enforce the laws we’ve already got. Make sure we are keeping the guns out of the hands of criminals…[and] those who are mentally ill.”

In case you’ve been sleeping in a cave for the past few years, the US government is doing everything it can to create more categories of crimes, and the psychiatrists are expanding the list of (fictional but enforceable) mental disorders, as they also relentlessly promote “more diagnosis and treatment.”

Some estimates state 20-25% of the US population is suffering from a mental disorder. These are absurd and cooked figures, for several reasons, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that huge numbers of people can be arbitrarily labeled as such.

So legally owning or not owning a gun may soon hinge on a broader definition of “mentally ill,” changed to “having been diagnosed with a mental disorder,” because that is one back-door way to execute a massive gun ban.

Simply put: diagnose everybody and his brother with a mental disorder, and then assert that any such diagnosis bars a person from obtaining a gun permit.

Psychiatry, in addition to destroying lives through toxic drugs, becomes a political instrument for gun control.

In the July editions of both Psychology Today and The Psychiatric Times, the same editorial, written by Dr. Allen Frances, America’s most influential psychiatrist, spelled out a clear position:

“Guns do kill people and the number of people depends on the number of guns and the number of rounds they can fire in a given period of time.”

Of course, no mention is made of the psychiatric drugs that induce violence and murder.

Dr. Frances sums up his unequivocal position: “We really have only two choices…accept mass murder as part of the American way of life, or…get in line with rest of the civilized world and adopt sane gun control policies.”

I thought I would explore the issue of mental illness from a slightly different perspective, however: WHY ARE FANATICAL GUN GRABBERS PSYCHOTIC-

What is the nature of THEIR mental disorder-

In the wake of the Newtown massacre, the gun-control forces are on the march. Ban this, ban that, go after the Doomsday preppers and bitter clingers.

The gun grabbers don’t respond to the obvious charge that, when honest people have weapons for self-defense, they can, in fact, defend themselves and stave off crime, harm, and death.

This point doesn’t make a dent.

Neither does arguing Second Amendment. Neither does painting a picture of a society in which the only people who have guns are the government and criminals. The gun grabbers seem to like that picture. At least theoretically.

Here are a few truths you can take to the bank:

If the media in this country (which are notoriously anti-gun) made a big deal out of every case in which an armed citizen successfully defended his home against a violent intruder, and made every such person a hero, we would have a different mood in America. Everybody would see the sense in gun ownership.

In the case of the Newtown killings, the media would be saying, “Now here is a tragic case in which no one in the school was carrying a weapon.” And everybody would see the sense and the truth of that.

So really, it’s matter of what the media cover and how they cover it, and what they ignore. That’s all it is. It isn’t anything else. In other words, they’re running a psyop.

Point two: the government doesn’t want private citizens to own and carry guns because that would diminish the role of government.

The people in charge hate it when private citizens take over a self-appointed government function. It’s insulting. It’s people saying to the government, “We don’t need you.” It’s proof that government acts in many, many ways that are intrusive and preemptive.

“No need to worry, officer, I caught the thief as he was leaving the liquor store. I pulled my weapon and put him down on the ground and cuffed him. He’s in the back of my car.”

No, no, no. no. The government must be in charge of everything that pertains to showing or using a gun. No outsiders allowed.

“Yes, Mrs. Smith, I’m sorry we’re late, and I’m sorry you husband was beaten to a pulp by that intruder, but we have other crimes to process. We have to man speed-traps. It’s better that your husband didn’t have a gun, let me assure you. Why- It just is. Now, let me call an ambulance. I hope they get him to the hospital in time.”

Imagine what the response would be if you asked an IRS executive what he thought about a flat consumer tax on bought goods that would replace the whole IRS code.

We’re talking about government jobs here. Jobs and money and pensions.

Private citizens must not do what the government does.

In case you hadn’t noticed, this spills over into the health field. The FDA certifies, as safe and effective, every (poisonous) medical drug before it can be prescribed for public use.

The FDA therefore controls drug treatment.

If somebody comes along and cooks up, in his kitchen, an herbal brew that knocks out the flu like a ridiculous little sissy in two hours, that’s a threat. Suddenly, a private citizen is miles ahead of the FDA (and the drug companies). No, no, no.

If home schoolers educate their kids better than government-run schools do, that’s another sore point. That’s bad. It expose the government factories that manufacture illiterate children.

Third point: if enough citizens were well-armed, it would take a full-scale federal invasion to overcome them in case of, oh, secession from the federalized United States.

The feds, of course, would win in the long run, if they killed enough people, but the publicity would be devastating to the government. Think Waco multiplied by a thousand or a million.

And in the process, word would get out about these well-armed private citizens’ grievances against the central government. The grievances would make sense to a lot of people watching the carnage unfold. Can’t have that. No, no, no.

Fourth point: A lot of people in this country grow up thinking they have to take care of other people. That’s really all they know how to do. This goes far beyond any understandable humane impulse.

This is meddling. It’s moving in on other people’s private business. The meddlers turn out to be vicious little scum. Well, where else are they going to be able to exercise these cheap impulses, other than in government jobs-

The corollary to this is: “I’m the hero. I protect you. I…you what- You protected yourself- No, you’re not allowed to do that, because then I can’t be a hero. You’re supposed to be the helpless citizen on my watch. If I can leap tall buildings, you have to be grounded. Otherwise, my life is in vain.”

Fifth point: Elites want to continue to own America. They want to have sway over the land and resources and people and money. Their minions and agents are the official people with weapons. That’s the way it works. It has to be a one-sided game. If millions and millions and millions of private citizens owned guns and knew how to use them, the tin gods wouldn’t be able to sleep well at night.

Sixth point: So-called liberals hate people who own guns. For them, guns are symbols of everything else they hate. Religion, land ownership, property rights, fences, and boundaries. Unless, of course, those fences define the liberals’ land.

Corollary: Many conservatives hate people who own guns, too, when they perceive those people are ready to decentralize power away from an overarching corporate-government control- nexus.

These are all elements of a true psychosis. It needs to be treated.

Short of mandatory sedatives, or a sudden attack on a lonely street at night by armed thugs, I recommend mandatory gun ownership for every non-felon adult in the US. This would solve the problem expeditiously.

I especially want to see all members of Congress packing heat in their chambers. If, once in a while, there is a shooting, well, we can catch it on C-Span. It won’t be lost to history.

I also want to see Chris Matthews in his MSNBC studio with a .45 strapped to his leg, the one that tingles.

There is one caveat to my proposal. In order to create a fully armed population, that population must be responsible, which is to say they must understand inviolable private property rights. They don’t have to own property, but they have to know that such a thing as private property exists. Why- Because property is one of the things an armed citizen has a right to defend.

Unfortunately, we’re losing the concept of private property like water leaking out of battered rowboat. It’s part of government’s plan, because government wants to own everything that isn’t already nailed down by its partner mega-corporations.

And government’s thinking goes this way: “Since we own everything, our cops defend it with guns; there is no reason for private armed citizens to defend it; it isn’t theirs.”

Meanwhile, I have to get going. I just got a message that three armed women teachers shot a guy named Adam Lanza in a classroom. I’m heading over to check it out.

New study: Short-term aromatherapy with essential oils may prevent heart disease

(NaturalNews) Traditional healers have often used natural scents to calm, soothe and even treat patients. Now comes research from mainstream scientists that shows the aromas from essential oils actually do work to create physical benefits that can be documented.

The study, just published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, found that the essential oils used in aromatherapy for stress relief may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. That’s because, with short-term exposure, the smells have a beneficial effect on heart rate and blood pressure.

The research team, headed by Dr. Kai-Jen Chuang from Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, studied 100 young, healthy non-smoking men and women. These volunteers visited the research center once a week for three weeks where they were exposed to the aromas of essential oils released from an ultrasonic ionizer. Specifically, 100 percent pure bergamot essential oil was vaporized for one hour in a small study room before the research subjects entered.

After two hours, the volunteers’ resting heart rates, systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were taken in the small study room. Essential oils are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) made up of hundreds of aromatic chemicals and the research team also documented the VOC levels in the room throughout the study period.

Results showed the study room’s VOC level was significantly associated with reduced blood pressure and heart rate for between 15 and 60 minutes after the start of exposure — and these changes were statistically significant. However, exposure over an hour increased heart rate and blood pressure, indicating that specific lengths of time of aromatherapy have different impacts on the body. The researchers expressed concern that prolonged exposure could be detrimental because it increases blood pressure. However, although the scientists don’t address this issue in their study, the findings also raise questions about whether prolonged aromatherapy might be used to raise blood pressure in people who could benefit from a higher blood pressure — such as those suffering from shock or inappropriate hypotension (low blood pressure).

As background to the study, the researchers stated that aromatherapy has long been used for stress relief and associated with some healing properties. For example, exposure to essential oils in candles has been found to reduce test-taking anxiety among nursing school students in the U.S. As Natural News has previously reported, additional research has shown specific combinations of essential oils can relieve PMS, also.

Mistletoe extract better than chemotherapy

(NaturalNews) Extracts from a certain species of mistletoe are more effective at treating colon cancer and have fewer negative side effects than chemotherapy, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of Adelaide, Australia.

Both case studies and experimental research have shown that mistletoe extracts can stimulate the immune system and directly destroy the cells of many different cancer types. As a result, mistletoe extract is a widely used cancer treatment in Europe. It has not yet been adopted by regulatory agencies or medical professionals in the United States and Australia; however, purportedly due to lack of scientific evidence.

“Mistletoe extract has been considered a viable alternative therapy overseas for many years, but it’s important for us to understand the science behind it,” said Professor Gordon Howarth, who supervised the student who carried out the research.

More effective than pharmaceuticals

Studies have shown that much of the initial uncertainty over the effectiveness of mistletoe extracts stemmed from the fact that each variety of mistletoe has its own unique properties. Therefore, university student Zahra Lotfollahi performed a study to test the effectiveness of three different kinds of mistletoe extract. She exposed both healthy intestinal cells and colon cancer cells to each of the extracts, as well as to chemotherapy.

One of the extracts, derived from the variety Fraxini, which grows only on ash trees, proved not only more effective against the cancer cells than the chemotherapy drugs were, but also less toxic to healthy intestinal cells.

“This is an important result because we know that chemotherapy is effective at killing healthy cells as well as cancer cells,” Lotfollahi said. “This can result in severe side effects for the patient, such as oral mucositis (ulcers in the mouth) and hair loss.”

“Our laboratory studies have shown Fraxini mistletoe extract by itself to be highly effective at reducing the viability of colon cancer cells. At certain concentrations, Fraxini also increased the potency of chemotherapy against the cancer cells.”

The findings are promising for expanding the acceptance and effective use of mistletoe extract, Howarth suggested.

“Although mistletoe grown on the ash tree was the most effective of the three extracts tested, there is a possibility that mistletoe grown on other, as yet untested, trees or plants could be even more effective,” he said. “This is just the first important step in what we hope will lead to further research, and eventually clinical trials, of mistletoe extract in Australia.”

“This might mean that Fraxini is a potential candidate for increased toxicity against cancer, while also reducing potential side effects,” Lotfollahi agreed.

It’s not just in laboratory studies that mistletoe extract performs well. A large clinical trial in Germany found that cancer patients who took a certain mistletoe extract lived 40 percent longer than patients who did not take the extract, while another study found that patients taking mistletoe extract had a significantly higher quality of life. Further clinical studies are also being pursued in Germany and Austria.

Secret White House list of demands for fiscal cliff resolution leaked to Natural News (satire)

(NaturalNews) President Obama has dispatched U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to negotiate a solution to the “fiscal cliff” debt ceiling with Republicans. The negotiations are being carried out in secret, but a copy of Geithner’s secret demands were leaked earlier today to Natural News.

This list explains why U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell “burst into laughter” upon hearing the demands, as has been reported in the mainstream media.

Here’s the full list of the ten demands:

1) Change the federal tax rate to 75% for all businesses except those which are “friends” of the Obama administration, in which case the federal government actually pays you huge bonuses to LOSE money.

2) Officially alter the rules of mathematics so that deficits are no longer called “negative” numbers, because that makes things sound too negative. Require all economists to “stay positive” when discussing government expenditures and financial projections.

3) Merge the USDA with Monsanto to create more “efficiencies” in government approval of genetically modified crops.

4) Reduce federal spending by creating a “Reduce the Federal Spending Agency” whose job it is to monitor the spending of all other federal agencies except the ones that don’t wish to be monitored. This means the “Reduce the Federal Spending Agency” will essentially monitor itself and produce reports on how much money it is spending producing reports on spending. “We’ve run out of the forms we use to order more forms!”

5) By government decree, divide the numbers on all currency and prices by ten so that everything suddenly appears to be ten times cheaper, tricking consumers into buying more stuff they don’t need, thereby stimulating the economy.

6) Authorize a nationwide “TSA liposuction ethanol” federal program to suck the body fat out of the bellies and butts of overweight TSA agents and convert it to ethanol fuel so that obese TSA goons can literally “power America” by eating more muffins and cupcakes they confiscate from travelers because muffins might be terrorist weapons. (Ya never know…)

7) Enact a new federal “fluoride tax” that requires every American to pay $5,000 a year to the federal government as compensation for the “benefits” of drinking fluoridated water. Also declare nuclear radiation to be a “health benefit” of Obamacare, and assess a radiation tax following the next nuclear accident.

8) Achieve economic equality in America by recruiting the U.S. military to air-drop billions of freshly-printed federal reserve notes on all the poor, inner-city neighborhoods that voted for Obama. (Imagine the boom in crack sales alone!)

9) Enact a new federal tax on all Salvation Army holiday donations, transforming all those Santa-like bell-ringers into jolly federal tax collectors.

10) As China holds about one-third of U.S. debt, pay off China with currency laced with melamine, lead and mercury to make up for all the toxic products China ships to the USA, and we’ll call it even.

Oh yeah, and eliminate all deductions, period. Because the subtraction symbol is just too negative.

Valerie Frankel: Hot Yoga Kicked My Ass, And that i Liked It

I tried Bikram yoga. Twenty-six poses in 90 minutes in a room heated to 104 degrees. My first three sessions were horrible, okay and great, in that order. After my triumphant third session — I got through every pose, no light-headedness or true misery — I thought, “Hot yoga is my bitch.”

In high cock, I walked into my forth class and smugly set up my towel. I was going to stretch and sweat copiously like a yogi master. Well, I survived the 90 minutes, but barely. It was torture. When class was over, I sat up to leave, and immediately sank back down. My fingers were tingling, and my head swam. I crawled out of the hot room to the front desk area. The normal temperature helped, but my hands and feet were still buzzing. I lay down on a bench, a hair’s width from passing out.

The instructor asked, “What did you have to drink today-”

“Two cups of coffee.”

Relief washed over her face. I wasn’t having a heart attack. I was dehydrated. Apparently, one should drink a liter of coconut water an hour before class, and then drink steadily during. I did take sips of water between poses. But not nearly enough. The instructor gave me Emergen-C, an electrolytes powder, diluted in water. I clung to consciousness while I drank it. Within a few minutes, I felt much better. My heart slowed and the tingling stopped. Legs still shaking, I retrieved my mat, and got out of there.

Later that night, my hip went into spasm. It still hurts 12 hours later. My husband said, “So you almost fainted, and you can barely walk. Yoga is so great for your health!”

I want to go back. As soon as the hip stops aching.

Regardless of the physical toll, this new, challenging, possibly dangerous practice feels necessary and important for my sense of self. Some positive insight: At 47, embarrassment is behind me. I didn’t care about being the oldest, fattest person in the yoga room. I had to stay intensely focused on my breathing, the poses. No one was judging me, including myself. And then, the swoon. Twenty years ago, if I’d almost fainted at a gym, I would have pretended I was fine to avoid making anyone else uncomfortable. Not so now! I said, “Help!” I needed it. I asked for it. No shame, no fear. It’s really okay to be a bother.

Some negative insight, too: Being unprepared or too cocky about yoga, or anything, will kick my ass. The truth is, I’ve been coasting for a while now. Professionally, I’ve stayed within my wheelhouse for years. I’m coasting in my marriage and with my friendships. I’ve relied on comfort and acquired skills, and haven’t pushed or taken risks. Past success, though, does not guarantee smooth sailing ahead. Logically, I know this. But I’d been willfully blinding myself to the uncertainties.

I’m not saying that, after four yoga classes, I’m going to make major changes in my relationships and career. But I am thinking about this stuff and making the connections. My thoughts are stretching, even if my hip joint stubbornly resists.

Of course, thoughts don’t equal action. But in this age of thought-crime, does it matter- If it’s discovered that a housewife in Little Rock was thinking, for three seconds, about killing the president of Egypt at 3:57 on a rainy Tuesday, between thinking about the frosting for a cake and getting the brakes fixed on the SUV, why she’s an open book. (NaturalNews) The push is on to get as many newborn babies as possible vaccinated for rotavirus in the U.K., as health officials unveil a new vaccine program that they claim will reduce hospital admissions for the stomach bug. BBC News reports that the U.K. Department of Health will begin administering the oral drop-based vaccine Rotarix, which is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), to children beginning in September 2013, even though the controversial vaccine has previously been found to harbor viral fragments of a swine virus known as porcine circovirus 1, or PCV1.

Following the lead of the U.S., Australia, and several other countries in Europe that have already adopted the use of Rotarix in small infants, British health officials are currently talking up the alleged benefits of the vaccine in order to gain public approval for its widespread introduction. According to official claims, the vaccine program, if implemented as intended, will cost the public health system in the U.K. the equivalent of nearly $40 million a year, while only purportedly saving it about $32 million a year.

But missing from the conversation is any talk about the very serious side effects of Rotarix, which just so happens to contain live attenuated virus. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), infants given Rotarix are twice as likely to develop intussusception, a potentially-deadly medical condition in which the intestines become blocked (http://www.fda.gov). Based on the figures, the risk of dying from these vaccine complications is likely higher than the risk of dying from rotavirus, which is relatively low.

Beyond these direct side effects, it was uncovered back in 2010 that every batch of Rotarix ever produced since the vaccine’s initial introduction back in 2008 has been contaminated with viral genetic material of PCV1. As reported by the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) at that time, foreign DNA from this swine virus had apparently contaminated GSK’s working cell bank and viral “seed” stock long before the vaccine even hit the market, which means millions of children have potentially become exposed to this tainted vaccine material. Magnesium reduces the chance of colon and pancreatic cancers in latest studies

(NaturalNews) The role of magnesium in cancer is quickly gaining interest among researchers because of recent studies showing protective effects against multiple cancers. The most recent studies have shown that every additional 100 mg of magnesium daily may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by 12 percent, and of pancreatic cancer by 21 percent.The latest study on colon cancer was carried out in two portions, each using dietary questionnaires to assess participants’ daily magnesium intakes. The first was a case-control study on over 1,500 people (768 cases and 709 control subjects), which showed that every extra 100 mg of daily magnesium intake led to a 19 percent risk reduction in colorectal adenomas. However, this result was only statistically significant for those with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or greater, or for those at least 55 years old, or for the case of advanced adenomas. This is still highly relevant to Americans of all ages; however, since the average American adult’s BMI is 28.4 for both men and women.

The second part of the study was a meta-analysis which combined the data of several past similar studies with the above new study, and this showed the protective effects of magnesium to be even more impressive. For the general population, every additional 100 mg/day of magnesium reduced the risk of colorectal adenomas by 13 percent, and reduced the risk of colorectal cancer by 12 percent. Importantly, the data showed both cases to be linear relationships, which means greater intakes of magnesium are assumed to offer proportionally higher levels of protection.

The most recent study on magnesium for pancreatic cancer was the EPIC Cohort from Europe, which included 142,203 men and 334,999 women with an average 11.3 year follow-up. Stratified analysis showed that every 100 mg/day increase in dietary magnesium reduced the risk of pancreatic cancer by 21 percent for those with a BMI of 25 or greater. Importantly, these results closely echoed the outcome of an earlier study from the UK (done on men only), which showed that men with the highest magnesium intakes (423 mg/day) had a 33 percent lower risk of pancreatic cancer than those with the lowest levels (281 mg/day). Again, this risk reduction was only valid and statistically significant for men with a BMI of 25 or greater. A 14 percent risk reduction was seen for the general male population (highest to lowest quintile of magnesium intakes) but the effect was not statistically significant.It shouldn’t be surprising that magnesium plays a role in cancer. It takes part as a co-factor in over 300 enzyme systems and is found in every tissue of the human body. And relevant for cancer, it plays a critical function in DNA repair, cell differentiation, proliferation and angiogenesis. Magnesium deficiency has also been linked directly to inflammation and oxidative stress, and now, to increased cancer risk. Unfortunately, 79 percent of American adults don’t get enough in their diets (the current RDA is 320 mg/day for women and 420 mg/day for men).Magnesium supplementation is an easy way to obtain the RDA, but eating magnesium-rich foods is a healthier way to get there, because they often contain other beneficial factors which also fight cancer.
